Evening Primrose 'Missouri Primrose' Dwarf 6- to 12-inch plants bloom all summer! Wonderfully fragrant and full of soft, buttery color, these huge blooms perfume the air in late afternoon and evening, beginning in May and continuing through July or even longer.
A hardy plant, this dwarf grows just 6 to 12 inches tall, but the blooms are tremendous--4 to 6 inches across and exquisitely formed, with a gentle, rounded shape that complements the sweet scent.
Hardy almost anywhere in the contiguous U.S., Evening Primrose is a trouble-free source of color and fragrance that belongs in every garden. It blooms in full sun and ordinary to poor soil. .
With brilliant yellow, pink or white cups or goblets, beautiful evening primroses are so easy to grow that you'll see them thriving and beautiful uncared for along roadsides.
Primrose has always been known as the Evening Primrose, until the day blooming varieties have been developed.
It is hard to duplicate the bright cup-shaped flower of the SunDrop or the day-blooming variety of the Primrose family.
These hardy, drought tolerant plants are easy to grow, if you give them full sun and a good garden soil mix.
If you find that your Evening Primrose are starting to face, you need to divide them. This is best done in the early spring by dividing the roots. This will energize the plant and it will rejuvinated.
Plant them wherever you desire a bright spot in the garden. They look equally well along the front of borders, in rock gardens or in a special spot that needs some additional color.
The best time to divide Evening Primrose is in early spring. Dig up the plants completely and gently pull apart the roots to divide the plant into 2 - 4 divisions.
Dig new holes, sprinkle in a handfule of bone meal and watch the flower display during the summer!
Evening Primrose 'Innocence': Oh, the beauty of a summer's evening. Evening Primrose opens in the evening to exclude the fragrance of honeysuckle and lemon. The bloom is delicate white with a yellow center. As the blossoms age overnight, they turn light pink. Innocence is low growing and covered with large blooms all summer.
Evening Primroses do well in full sun. Plant height varies depending on variety. One species can grow to approx. 6 ft. tall. Works great in a rock garden.
This is a great plant for the rock garden or the front of the flower border, where you want striking yellow or white blooms.
Plant the Evening Primrose in some of the most difficult areas of your garden. Not only are they deer resistant, they are drought tolerant as well. Just give them a sunny spot with good rich garden soil and you will get a summers worth of blooms from them.
Creeping foliage is well-suited for garden's edge, along walkways or in containers. Mix with purple or blue cranesbill, centaurea or red daylily. Well-drained, somewhat fertile soil is ideal.

Brilliant helenium has dark reddish-orange daisies that combine well with clear yellow evening primrose in sunny places.

Spacing: Space 18" - 24" apart when planting, depending on the size of the cultivar.
Irrigation: Plant requires little irrigation. Does best in poor-moderately fertile, gritty soil. Soil must be well-draining.
Spring Clean-up: In early spring trim all the dead prior year's growth off the plants. You will find that this not only gives the plant a neater appearance, it will give more energy to the plant for a good spring start.
